Gerry Ettinger, a Prussian-born former film producer, opened a London leather-goods import business in 1934, supplying department stores like Harrods, Fortnum & Mason and Asprey rather than making anything himself. That changed in the 1950s, when the company bought Prestwick Luggage, a small London manufacturer, turning Ettinger from an importer into a maker in its own right. The business is still family-run under Gerry's son Robert Ettinger, holding a Royal Warrant first granted in 1996 to the then-Prince of Wales and renewed since he became King Charles III.
