Jeremy Hackett and Ashley Lloyd-Jennings started Hackett London in 1983 selling second-hand English clothing from a stall on Portobello Road, before opening a proper shop on the King's Road in Chelsea. Hackett had spent the 1960s working on Savile Row, and that classic-English-gentleman reference (tailoring, bowler hats, black umbrellas) shaped the label as it grew into a full menswear business covering shoes, accessories and sportswear. In 2019 the brand returned to Savile Row itself, taking over the former Hardy Amies store; it's now owned by L Capital Asia and M1 Group.
