Eugène Heschung, previously a cutter at one of Dettwiller's shoe factories, started his own workshop in Steinbourg, in northern Alsace, in 1934, building boots and work shoes on Norwegian welt or Goodyear welt construction for farmers and loggers. His son Robert and later his grandson Pierre kept the business in the family, and starting in the 1950s it moved into leather ski boots, eventually becoming official supplier to the French ski team. Pierre brought the brand to the general consumer market for the first time in the 1990s, with a line of derbies, oxfords and boots, and the French state has since recognized the company as a Living Heritage enterprise.
