Jekyll & Hide
Visit websiteBernard Bultemeier, who'd cut his teeth in hawker trading at weekend flea markets, started Jekyll & Hide out of a garage in Hout Bay, Cape Town in 2002. He specifically wanted to avoid an Italian-sounding name for a South African leather brand, landing at 2am one night on Jekyll and Hide, a play on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The business grew from flea-market stall into wholesale distribution across Cape Town and then Johannesburg, and now runs with a team of around 60 people.
