Simone Maggi, from the textile town of Biella, and Riccardo Schiavotto founded Lanieri in 2011, spotting a gap in the made-to-measure market: plenty of brands sold custom suits online, but none of them actually manufactured in Italy. That distinction drew investment from major Italian mills in 2013, including Reda Group and Vitale Barberis Canonico, and Reda 1865 eventually acquired the company outright. Suits are still cut from fabric supplied by mills including Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico and Tallia di Delfino.
