Matsuda
Visit websiteMitsuhiro Matsuda, a Tokyo-born designer trained at Bunka before he moved to Paris for inspiration, built his fashion house Nicole Co. starting in 1967, drawing on Art Deco, industrial metalwork and Gothic architecture for his clothing lines. He didn't launch eyewear until 1989, but the collection caught on almost immediately, showing up in films like Beetlejuice, Terminator 2 and Boomerang through the 1990s. Every frame is still handmade in Sabae, Japan, in a process that runs over 250 steps per pair; the label went dormant for several years before CEO James Kisgen, previously Cartier's director of sales, relaunched it in 2012.
