Frederics Opticians opened in New York City in 1913, built around the idea of pairing the highest-quality product with genuinely skilled opticianry. Eyewear designer Richard Morgenthal bought the company in 1986 and pushed it upmarket, developing a particular specialty in buffalo horn frames that the brand introduced in 2006. Frames are made today by master artisans in Germany and Japan (horn milled in Germany, acetate handcrafted in France, titanium sourced from Japan), with every pair fitted through a fully bespoke process across the brand's 13 boutiques.
