Brothers Irving and Jack Schott, sons of Russian Jewish immigrants, founded Schott NYC in 1913, opening their first store on East Broadway on Manhattan's Lower East Side. Irving created the Perfecto motorcycle jacket in 1928, naming it after his favorite cigar, and the company also claims to be the first to put a zipper on a jacket. Schott made uniforms for the US Armed Forces during WWII and later for American law enforcement, and remains family-owned today, still manufacturing much of its clothing in the US.
