Mathieu Preiss founded Septième Largeur in 2009 as a family venture, starting from a confidential Paris showroom in the 10th arrondissement that doubled as a kind of laboratory for his real interest: patina, the art of coloring leather to mimic the natural effects of age. He'd developed that obsession with color and craftsmanship well before the brand existed, drawn to art and exceptional objects from an early age. Over more than sixteen years the house has built its reputation specifically around that patina technique, still run today with Preiss balancing a more contemporary vision against the artisanal heritage the brand was built on.
