Skyeskyns
Visit websiteSkyeskyns began in the 1980s at a croft in Waternish on the Isle of Skye, founded by Clive and Lydia Hartwell as a way to repurpose discarded sheepskins and diversify the croft's income. It is now the only commercial sheepskin tannery left in Scotland, still using tree bark tanning and vintage machinery from the 1920s and 1930s, with each piece handmade in small batches at the Waternish tannery. Alongside its sheepskin rugs and home goods, it makes men's clothing, hats, scarves, and gloves, and is now run by the second generation of the Hartwell family with an all-female crew.
