Vaer was founded in Venice Beach in 2016 by Ryan Torres and Reagan Cook, funded with their own savings rather than outside investors, and began selling watches in 2017. After its first year, the pair moved assembly to the United States, releasing its first batch of American-assembled watches in spring 2018. It launched its automatic watch line the following year through a Kickstarter campaign that raised $222,000 in 30 days.
